US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien said he believed the Iranian regime was "going through a very bad week", citing the disaster of bringing down the Ukrainian plane, and offered his condolences to the Ukrainian president and the families of the victims.
He added in the program "This Week" on the American ABC channel: "This system suffers from the maximum pressure, suffers from inefficiency, and the Iranian people are tired of this."
On whether the United States supports regime change in Iran, O'Brien said this was "not the policy of President Donald Trump's administration, but rather it supports human rights."
He continued, "The best that we can do for the Iranian people and the world is to continue the maximum pressure campaign to ensure that the Iranian regime does not obtain a nuclear weapon, stop its terrorist activities in the region, and stop the ballistic missile program."
He explained that the United States will not “stop and flee” from Iraq because of the threats of the Iranian regime, nor will its citizens be evacuated due to someone’s threats, pointing to the reinforcements sent to the embassy in Baghdad, which came after the protesters ’attempts to storm the United States embassy.
He added, “We will not get another Benghazi. We will not have another seizure similar to what happened to our embassy in Tehran, where our diplomats were taken hostage. ”
He pointed out that the American administration likes to see the return of the American soldiers, but he stressed that the reason for the presence of the American forces is ISIS, noting that when President Trump arrived, ISIS was physically present in Syria and Iraq and now he has been defeated. He made clear that they were discussing with the allies the efforts to train Iraqi forces and the army to defeat ISIS.
"He wants to disclose the intelligence behind the Qassem Soleimani attack," O'Brien said, adding "We want to keep the American people safe."
