The Ministry of Electricity announced, Tuesday, that a number of generating units will be introduced through several stations nationwide, which will contribute to supplying the system with nearly 3 thousand megawatts, which will bring the production capacity to 22 thousand megawatts before the next summer season, confirming the imminent conclusion of a contract with the Ministry of Industry to supply 400 transformers of more than Reliability of the distribution sector in the coming period.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the technical and engineering staff in the ministry are currently working in more than one direction to improve the reality of production and distribution throughout the country, despite the limited financial allocations.” The ministry, is to reach production to 22 thousand megawatts before the next summer season. "

He explained that "the next few years will witness the introduction of the first unit in the Salah al-Din Thermal Station with a capacity of 630 megawatts" into service, stressing that "the second unit, which will be the other with the same generating capacity, will enter work during the summer months of this year to supply the system with more than 1,200 Megawatts. "
He added that "the staff is also making exceptional efforts to introduce a number of units in most stations, such as (Al-Khairat, Wasit Al-Hariya, Al-Haidariyah and others), whose production capacities are estimated at 3 thousand megawatts, and all of them will enter before the next summer season," noting that "the ministry was able to reach production in the summer of the year." The past reached nearly 19,000 megawatts, and this summer it seeks to reach 22,000 megawatts of production, so that the reality of energy supply this summer will be better than last year. "

Al-Abadi stressed that "the amount of production, which amounts to 22 thousand megawatts, is produced entirely from the power stations spread throughout the country, and there are no capacities that supply the system from neighboring countries, except for 1200 megawatts from the Iranian side that feed Basra and Diyala through four lines."

The ministry’s spokesman revealed that “the minister has granted exceptional powers to the agents and managers and granted the minister's authority to the managers of the northern, southern and central regions, to accelerate the improvement of the electrical system before the next summer season and the development of the distribution sector throughout all regions of Iraq,” revealing that “the conclusion of a contract with the Ministry of Industry is imminent. To supply 400 transformers for the distribution sector. "

He continued, "The distribution sector has suffered from negligence and obsolescence for decades, which led to many defects in this sector, especially since this sector is the main joint through which the citizen touches the improvement of energy supply through it," stressing that "the ministry is currently working according to an emergency plan to improve this sector," Especially with the scarcity of financial allocations. Therefore, the companies of the Ministry of Industry resorted to supplying transformers and some electrical equipment intended for the distribution sector, to work to break the bottlenecks inside the capital Baghdad and the provinces, "stressing that" the delay in approving the financial budget greatly affected the plans of the ministry. "

Al-Abadi affirmed, "The distribution cadres in Baghdad and the governorates have undertaken a wide campaign to set standards for all subscribers, whether they are regular or irregular consumers, to contribute to organizing loads and rationalizing electric power, in addition to maximizing collection fees
