Yesterday, Wednesday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed Iraq's refusal to be an arena for the liquidation of Iraq, stressing the need to cooperate with NATO. The Prime Minister's media office stated that "Al-Kazemi met the Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, at NATO headquarters in the Belgian capital, Brussels."
During the meeting, Al-Kazemi stressed the importance of developing relations between Iraq and NATO for the interests of the Iraqi people and the stability of the region and the world.
And he refused, "for Iraq to be an arena for settling conflicts, or a springboard for attacking any of its neighbors."
Al-Kazemi pointed out, “The need to cooperate with NATO to support the efficiency and capabilities of our forces and security institutions of all kinds, especially in the context of preparing to secure the upcoming early elections, as well as enhancing their capabilities in protecting against terrorist and criminal attacks against citizens and infrastructure.”
For his part, Stoltenberg praised Al-Kazemi's role "and his great efforts and leadership in Iraq in light of the great challenges facing Iraq, the region and the world."
Stoltenberg added, "NATO will continue to support Iraq," referring to the possibility of "Iraq's dependence on NATO support."
He stressed, "The mission in Iraq is a non-combat mission of a purely training and advisory nature."
And he noted, "Any expansion of its framework will be in accordance with the request, approval and priorities of the Iraqi government."
And Stoltenberg added, "The mission will rely on the Iraqi security forces to provide its security and protection."
