{Economic: Al Furat News} Oil prices rose, on Thursday, with the rise in consumer demand in the United States and other countries to a record level, in addition to the decrease in the American strategic stockpile, at a time when the Omicron type of Corona virus threatens the impact of oil consumption worldwide.
Brent crude futures rose 54 cents, or 0.72%, to $74.42 a barrel by 05:16 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 68 cents, or 0.96%, to $71.61.
Data from the US Energy Information Administration showed that US crude stocks fell by 4.6 million barrels in the week ending on December 10.
Analysts said the rise reflected higher demand for oil from the United States, which is the world's largest consumer, and other countries, reflecting expectations of an increase in the number of people traveling for holidays and easing supply chain bottlenecks with more trucks on the road to deliver goods.
However, ongoing concerns about the coronavirus have limited price gains.
Britain and South Africa reported record daily cases of COVID-19 with Omicron spreading rapidly, while many companies around the world are now requiring employees to work from home, which may also limit the demand for oil.
