Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a rare understanding on Saturday to urgently transfer Tehran's ambassador to Yemen to his country due to his infection with the Corona virus.

Houthi spokesman Muhammad Abdul Salam said in a tweet on Twitter, "An Iranian-Saudi understanding through Baghdad, according to which the Iranian ambassador in Sana'a was transferred on an Iraqi plane, due to his health conditions."
He added, "What is reported in the media, of narratives and speculation, is untrue."
For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a tweet on Twitter, "The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Yemen was infected with the Corona virus several days ago and needs urgent medical attention."
He added that "with the help of some countries in the region, the ambassador is being transferred to the country," praising the countries participating in this humanitarian work.
For his part, a high-ranking Saudi official announced that the Iranian ambassador to the Houthis left the capital, Sanaa, on Saturday, in an Iraqi plane, which the Saudis allowed to land and take off from the airport in the city under the control of the Houthis, according to Agence France-Presse.
The Saudi official said, "The ambassador left on an Iraqi plane and may be currently in Baghdad," adding that Riyadh's agreement to allow his departure was issued after Iraqi and Omani mediation.
In October 2020, Iran announced the arrival of its ambassador to Sanaa, without explaining the date of his actual arrival or how that happened, knowing that the airport in the Yemeni capital is closed to flights with the Arab coalition imposing control of Yemeni airspace.
And yesterday, Friday, the American “Wall Street Journal” newspaper reported that the Houthis’ request from Saudi Arabia to allow Iran’s ambassador, Hassan Erlo, to leave, indicates the existence of a “latent dispute” between the group and Tehran.
And it quoted regional officials that the ambassador has become “a political problem that increases the burden on the group, given his great influence in Yemen, which reinforces the perception that the Houthis are responding to Iran.”
