The Ministry of Health has warned that the country will be exposed to a fifth pandemic wave of Corona, in light of the emergence of a new mutant of the virus called (Delta Crohn).
Recently, scientists identified a new hybrid of the Corona virus, which they called “Deltacrone”, because it mixes the “Delta” and “Omicron” mutants, and infections with the new mutant have been detected in the United States and a number of European countries, such as France, Germany and Denmark, but a number of These injuries are limited, while China and Korea continue to record thousands of new injuries daily.
A member of the medical media team in the ministry, Ruba Falah Hassan, told Al-Sabah: "Iraq is not exempt from being affected by the new mutant of Corona, and it may be exposed to a fifth epidemic wave, especially after the emergence of another mutant called (Delta Crohn) in a number of countries."
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Iraq has recorded four waves of the virus and its variants, the last of which was the Omicron mutated wave, all of which led to the death of thousands of patients.
Hassan stressed that "the ministry is ready to receive any new mutant that the country may be exposed to through the good protocol and the therapeutic developments of mutant according to the World Health Organization, as coordination has been made with the organization's specialists to provide the country with studies, research and medical information from epidemiologists in order to confront the new mutant when it enters the country." Iraq".
She pointed out that "the preparation of special programs for displaced families focusing on awareness and taking vaccinations, in order to remove the risks of the virus from their camps and not to spread it, as there is high coordination with the relevant authorities in this regard."
She pointed out, "A vaccination rate has been reached that exceeded 25 percent with the first dose and more than 17 percent for the second dose, in addition to recording a demand for receiving the third dose, and there are efforts by health authorities to vaccinate 80 percent of the covered groups to reach community immunity."
The Ministry of Health has repeatedly renewed its appeals to citizens about the importance of vaccination to prevent virus mutants and achieve community immunity, as recently there has been a clear decrease in the number of vaccinated people after the decline of the fourth epidemic wave.
