BAGHDAD / NINA / A political source revealed that the outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is still adamant about his position on the third term until now despite the interventions of some of the leaders of the Dawa Party to persuade him to give up.

The source said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / "The former Vice President Khodair al-Khuzaie and the leader of the Dawa Party Khalaf Abdul Samad and some leaders held a series of intensive meetings with Maliki during the past two days in order to persuade him to step down as prime minister in favor of Haider al-Abadi, but their attempts failed until now. "

The source said that "al-Maliki rejected a request made by some leaders of the Dawa Party, to withdraw the lawsuit made by him to challenge the legitimacy of assigning Haider Abadi, to form the next government."

The leader of the Dawa Party MP Khalaf Abdul Samad revealed yesterday that "the coming hours will witness a real convergence, and the end to the standoff between outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Haider al-Abadi, after lengthy meetings for the Dawa party they belong to."

Another political source from Dawa party said "The leaders of the party held intensive meetings with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in order to persuade him to step down from the post of prime minister and support of assigned Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi."

The source added that, "these leaders want that Maliki remains at the head of the state of law coalition and the Dawa party and pick up included members of the Dawa party and support the leadership of the Party, Haider Abadi, in order to preserve the cohesion of the party, the coalition and the political process," ./ End
