On Sunday, the Ministry of Commerce announced the size of the strategic stockpile of wheat and its expectations regarding the marketing season, and was reassured that it had taken effective measures to secure strategic stocks of wheat and ration card items.

The ministry’s spokesman, Muhammad Hanoun, said, in a statement to the official agency, and followed by “Nas” (May 8, 2022), that “the report of the Financial Supervision Bureau, which was published during the past days on strategic storage, was information provided by the General Company for Grain Trade as a routine procedure in order to intervene The Ministry of Finance or the Council of Ministers in the matter of providing strategic storage,” noting that “the Iraqi government has allocated funds to purchase 250 thousand tons of Australian and German wheat.”
He added, "The wheat marketing season is successful by all standards, as the ministry receives 50,000 tons per day of wheat in all centers spread across the country," explaining that "marketing centers have been opened in Anbar and Salah al-Din, and work is continuing to open new centers in the rest of the provinces."
He stressed that "the marketing season will achieve about 3.5 million tons, which is a good achievement and a step to secure stocks of wheat," noting that "the government and Parliament have allocated one billion dollars for the ration card to purchase 3 million tons as strategic stocks."
And he indicated that "this decision will allow the provision of strategic storage for a period of 6 months, while securing the entirety of the ration card items during the marketing season, which has begun to reap its fruits," assuring the citizens that "there are effective measures in securing wheat and the food basket, as large funds have been disbursed from the Ministry of Finance." In addition to securing materials through strategic marketing through the food security decision to be adopted in the coming days."
