The Local Federation of Agricultural Associations in Diyala Governorate confirmed, on Thursday, that the province lost 40% of its livestock within months due to the Minister of Agriculture.
The head of the union, Raad Al-Tamimi, said in an interview with / the information / that "the decision of the Minister of Agriculture to prevent the import of fodder prompted an unprecedented rise in prices, reaching 850 thousand per ton, after it was about 300,000 tons a year ago."
Al-Tamimi added, "The price hike has increased pressure on livestock and sheep breeders in Diyala in a very harsh way and pushed them to sell their herds," stressing that "according to readings, the province lost 40% of its livestock within months due to the pressure of fodder."
He called for "the need to reconsider the decision to ban the import of fodder in order to reduce prices as much as possible, especially since raising livestock and sheep is a source of livelihood for thousands of families in Diyala and the rest of the other provinces."
Livestock and sheep breeding has been spread in 24 agricultural districts in Diyala for decades
