On Sunday, Dr. Bashar Abdullah, director of the “Dr. Jamal Ahmed Rashid” Children’s Hospital in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, announced the admission of large numbers of children due to diarrhea and vomiting to the hospital’s emergency department, and he also said, “We are now at the height of the epidemic.”
Abdullah said in a press conference held today, that the cases of diarrhea and vomiting are witnessing a rise in Sulaymaniyah, and it is expected to rise further, adding that the number of injured is very large, and so far about 140 injured children have been admitted to the hospital.
He explained that among this number, 122 children are lying in the emergency department, including 95 suffering from diarrhea and vomiting, which is currently spreading, and some of them have viral disease, others with parasites, and some have allergies to some types of food.
The Director of the Children's Hospital in Sulaymaniyah also indicated that these cases were possible in the past, and after the outbreak of the Corona virus, this is the largest number that has been admitted to the hospital and for the first time in the past three years, this large number of patients is recorded.
Abdullah also expected an increase in the number of children affected by this disease, “we may be at the peak now,” adding that “other waves of the disease are expected during the hot summer season.”
He also said, "The risk of infection with chorea disease always stares at us, so we take examination samples for this disease from most of the infected children, but so far, no cases of cholera have been recorded."
