Statement from the Ministry of Oil:
Ministry of Oil: The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs confirms the government and the ministry’s keenness to invest in associated gas and develop free gas fields to achieve industrial and economic development.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Mr. Izzat Saber Ismail, confirmed that the gas sector is receiving the attention of the government and the ministry, pointing out that the ministry’s strategy and plans aim to stop gas flaring in the coming few years. This came during his field visit to the Basra Gas Company today, Sunday.
The Undersecretary pointed out that the Ministry has contracted with specialized companies to invest in associated gas and convert it into energy that can be used to provide fuel to the electricity sector and develop industries in the field of petrochemicals and other industries, explaining that the Ministry has achieved an investment rate of (67%) of gas, reaching (70%) by the end of this year.
Ismail added that the ministry is proceeding with its plans drawn up within the government program and the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani, to invest all quantities of gas associated with oil operations from oil fields to achieve industrial and economic development.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry, while chairing a meeting with the company's officials in the presence of the General Manager of the South Gas Company, Mr. Hamza Abdul Baqi, praised the efforts of the workers for their effective contribution to achieving the positive indicators achieved from the investment of associated gas, the quantities of which reached (1000) million standard cubic feet per day. He pointed out that it is hoped, within the future plans, that new quantities will be added during the coming year, appreciating the keenness and efforts of the company's workers to resume production operations from the North Rumaila (NGL) station, in record time after the fire incident that occurred in one of the furnaces last week without incidents.
During his visit to the company, the Undersecretary of the Ministry conveyed the greetings of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, stressing the need to expedite the implementation of the second phase of the Basra Gas Plant project, which consists of two phases, each of which is concerned with processing raw gas equivalent to 200 million standard cubic feet, with the aim of investing the associated gas in the northern Rumaila field and other fields.
