Parliament member Ali Al-Hamidawi attributed, on Saturday, the reason for the existence of more than two million random housing units throughout the country to the lack of coordination between the legislative and executive authorities.
Al-Hamidawi said in a press interview, which was seen by “Takadam”, that “the treatment of slums can only see the light through the legislation of the law and a government decision,” noting that “there are a number of obstacles to the legislation of the slums law.”
He added that "two million slums are located throughout the country, as the capital, Baghdad, has taken the lead, and it has become necessary to solve the problem of slums."
He pointed out that “obtaining adequate housing is a human right that requires the legislative and executive authorities to provide each family with housing instead of the slums that it is witnessing today, especially in the capital, Baghdad.”
The presentation of the slums law to the House of Representatives sparked political and popular disagreement, which caused the termination of its discussion and the postponement of its proposal until the necessary amendment is made in its contents.
