Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Health confirmed that health insurance will be mandatory for employees, while indicating that it will contribute to the payment of medical wages to the beneficiary by 90%.
A spokesman for the Health Insurance Authority affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Ihab Abdul-Karim Khalaf, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency: "We started with the first phase of health insurance by launching the electronic form, and we identified the bodies that we will start with, which are the government agencies from the three presidencies and the centers of some ministries, in addition to 100,000 insured persons." Those covered by social care who will be exempted from payment, in addition to a part of those with mental illness and autism, and 10% of the contractors.
He pointed out that "health insurance includes all Iraqi governorates, including the Kurdistan region," noting that "health insurance will contribute to paying medical wages to the beneficiary by 90%, and segments that are unable to be exempt."
He added, "The health insurance will be compulsory for the employee and the rest of the categories optional," explaining that "the health insurance will be implemented within six months, starting from the launch of the form."
And he indicated that "after the first stage and the registration of employees, the form will be opened to those wishing to register gradually," stressing: "We will work to qualify and prepare the necessary requirements for the application of the health insurance law and define the criteria for service providers from hospitals and health centers in the public and private sectors."
