High hopes for resolving the political impasse in Kurdistan

With caution and optimism at the same time, the two Kurdish parties, the Patriotic Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, are meeting to discuss preparations for holding legislative elections in the Kurdistan region.
Informed sources in the region indicate that the problems between the two parties are not limited to the elections only, but also extend to observations made by the Kurdistan Union regarding the effects of the democratic way of governance on the lives of citizens, in addition to interference in security affairs. The sources also say: The meeting may be a precursor to resolving major and accumulated disagreements. A member of the Kurdistan Union, Sherwan Mirza, said, "The initiative of the meeting comes on the anniversary of the 1991 uprising, which is in harmony with the initiative of the head of the Kurdistan Union Party, Pavel Talabani, in cooperation and peace with all parties in the region."
Mirza added, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "the purpose of the initiative is to benefit everyone and not to favor partisan interest," noting that it "comes in conjunction with the efforts of the region's president, Nechirvan Barzani, to bring together political parties at the dialogue table."
Mirza revealed "claims for a comprehensive and final agreement on the election law between the two parties' institutions for elections, as well as activating the electoral commission in the region."
While the researcher in political affairs from Sulaymaniyah, Sherwan Sherwani, considered the invitation of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, "an answer to a reproach presented by the leadership of the Union, as Barzani is known for his tendencies to reunite and break the intractable knots within the region between everyone." Sherwani added, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "Barzani does not have much to do, due to the nature of the distribution of powers between the presidency of the region and the government, and the restriction of his powers," pointing out that "the differences between the Union and the Democratic Party have reasons, including the complex relationship between the two parties."
The researcher believed that "the dispute between the two parties is on its way to an end through communication and discussions, especially the ongoing meetings of the two parties' election institutions."
