    Today, Friday, June 16, 2023, the celebration of the anniversary of the founding of OPEC was launched in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, with international participation, during which the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed that alternative energy will be a competitor to oil and gas in the future.

    Al-Sudani said during the celebration that "OPEC has become one of the most important international organizations and is a witness to the oil transformations in the countries of the world," pointing out that "oil is still an important economic resource in the world, and OPEC's responsibility does not end with the export process, but rather reaches the price regulation process."



    He added, "The member states must bear in mind the challenges in the world," noting that "the entry of natural gas into the energy market has added new responsibilities."

    He continued, "Iraq relies on oil as the main resource for the economy," noting that "we will sign the sixth round of gas investment, as we have signed important contracts for gas investment."

    He also explained, "We have made room for the private sector and providing facilities as a priority without any complication," and he stated that "alternative energy will be a competition for oil and gas in the future."

    In addition, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani welcomed the attendees at the celebration of the founding of OPEC in Baghdad, saying: "Baghdad welcomes your presence after 6 decades." He added, "We will sign a memorandum declaring the founding of OPEC in Baghdad on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary."

    During the celebration, Abdul-Ghani said: We seek to use modern technology in the oil field, and we proceeded according to a road map to upgrade the Iraqi economy with the support of the Council of Ministers, pointing out that OPEC seeks to achieve oil stability and there is cooperation and coordination between OPEC countries for common interests

    . In the same context, the Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, thanked Iraq for the warm reception, explaining that “OPEC had an active role in establishing the OPEC Fund for Developing Countries.” The Saudi Minister of Energy added: “OPEC achieved its goals, and OPEC

    Plus maintained stability energy markets.

    The Ministry of Oil said recently that "the capital, Baghdad, will host the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in the People's Hall, which witnessed on September 14, 1960 the signing by five oil-producing and exporting countries, namely: Iraq, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, And the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Venezuela, to declare the independence of the decision in the management of oil resources and to break the monopoly of foreign companies.

    It is noteworthy that OPEC is an international organization that was founded in the historic Baghdad Conference held on September 10-14, 1960, in the presence of the oil ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Venezuela. The organization has grown since then to include in its membership today 13 oil producing country.
