Allawi said in a statement, "Saddam's regime was dictatorial and monopolistic, which called on a vanguard of patriotic Iraqis, including from within the Baath Party and others from outside, to confront the regime at the time because of its repressive policies and abuse of power for suspicious interests and wills that plunged Iraq into bloody internal and external wars, such as the Iran war, then Kuwait and other wars."
