Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the role of French President Emmanuel Macron and France’s support for Iraq and the region.
The Presidency of the Region said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, received, on Wednesday night (October 4, 2023), the French President’s Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa, Patrick Durrell.
The statement added that the meeting discussed the upcoming visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Iraq. Views were exchanged on France’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and the internal conditions of the Kurdistan Region.
The two sides stressed the importance of France's relations with Iraq and the region, and pointed to France's role and effective participation in the international coalition to eliminate ISIS. The two sides agreed on the necessity and importance of France's support for Iraq at the current stage.
Regarding the internal situation of the Kurdistan Region, the two sides stressed the importance of cohesion and unity of ranks between the political parties in the Kurdistan Region and the unity of their word and position in Baghdad, and they discussed relations between Erbil and Baghdad and dialogue in order to solve the outstanding problems between them.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed thanks and appreciation for President Macron's role and France's support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Regarding the problems with Baghdad, he stressed that the Kurdistan Region is always ready for a solution on the basis of the constitution and in accordance with the dictates of the federal system.
The statement indicated that the situation of the displaced and refugees in the Kurdistan Region, the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with neighboring countries and countries of the region, the latest developments in the ISIS war in Iraq and Syria, the situation of the region in general, and a group of issues of common interest formed another focus of the meeting.
