The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed that failure to implement political agreements and failure to disburse the Kurdistan Region’s dues and constitutional rights will bring nothing but harm to Iraq.
The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in a statement on the occasion of the New Year, Sunday (December 31, 2023), extended congratulations to the families of the martyrs, the Peshmerga, the Interior Forces, Kurdistanis with all their components wherever they are, and the peoples of Iraq and the entire world, wishing everyone a year full of safety, reassurance, happiness and success.
Nechirvan Barzani pointed out that 2023 was “a harsh year by all standards due to the repercussions of the political, security and economic conditions and the problems and crises of the region, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”
He noted that “after all the political agreements concluded with the federal authorities and what was stated in the Iraqi constitution, and despite all the dialogues, efforts and commitments, nothing has been achieved that guarantees the rights of our citizens in accordance with the constitutional entitlements of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq,” noting that “the security and stability of Kurdistan has been threatened, and no “It is still happening, through repeated attacks with marches.”
The President of the Kurdistan Region stressed that “non-implementation of political agreements and failure to disburse the Kurdistan Region’s dues and constitutional rights will only bring harm to Iraq,” calling on everyone in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to work in “the spirit of shared responsibility, acceptance of others, and harmony to address problems and overcome crises.”
He added: “In the new year, let us in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region draw lessons and lessons from the past, and move together towards a better, stable and secure future. Let us turn crises and challenges into opportunities, and let the interests of the people and the nation be the goal and unifier for us all.”
He also reaffirmed that “the Kurdistan Region is continuing to develop its relations regionally and internationally in accordance with the principle of mutual respect and common interests, and will remain, as we have known, a factor of safety and stability, an effective partner for the international community, and an oasis for pluralism and coexistence.”
Below is the text of the statement:
“On the occasion of the new Gregorian year, the year 2024, I congratulate the families of the honorable martyrs, the heroic Peshmerga, the Interior Forces, the Kurdistanis with all their components wherever they are, and the peoples of Iraq and the entire world, wishing everyone a year full of safety, reassurance, happiness and success.
Today we bid farewell to a difficult year by all standards due to the repercussions of the political, security and economic conditions and the problems and crises of the region, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, during which we faced many dangers and challenges.
The political dispute within the region had a bad impact on the position and standing of Kurdistan in Iraq and outside it and led to the Kurdistan Region being unable to obtain its constitutional rights and entitlements. This was the reason for postponing the Kurdistan Parliament elections. We also witnessed its bad effects in the results of the recent elections for provincial councils in the areas covered by Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution.
As for the federal government, after all the political agreements concluded with the federal authorities and what was stated in the Iraqi constitution, and despite all the dialogues, efforts and commitments, nothing has been achieved that guarantees the rights of our citizens in accordance with the constitutional entitlements of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, and the security and stability of Kurdistan has been threatened, and is still being done, through Repeated attacks by marches.
Failure to implement political agreements and failure to disburse constitutional dues and rights to the Kurdistan Region will only cause harm to Iraq. Therefore, all of us in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region must work in a spirit of shared responsibility, acceptance of others, and harmony to address problems and overcome crises.
In the new year, let us in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region draw lessons from the past and move together towards a better, stable and secure future. Let us turn crises and challenges into opportunities, and let the interests of the people and the nation be the goal and unifier for us all. Iraq is strong and rich in its components, and only harmony and cohesion can everyone win.
On this occasion, we reaffirm that the Kurdistan Region is continuing to develop its relations regionally and internationally in accordance with the principle of mutual respect and common interests, and will remain, as we have known it, a factor of safety and stability, an effective partner for the international community, and an oasis for pluralism and coexistence.
We look forward with hope and optimism towards the future, and a blessed new year for everyone.
