Economic expert Othman Karim announced today, Wednesday (January 3, 2024), a decline in real estate prices in Erbil, due to the repeated attacks on the city.
Karim said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The recent economic crisis led to an almost complete paralysis of the real estate market in Erbil, as a result of the lack of financial liquidity and investor fears, and the real estate sector has been witnessing a state of instability for some time."
He added, "The recent attacks on Erbil with missiles and marches led to a greater decline in the real estate market and the paralysis has become complete, due to the fears of businessmen, since Erbil was an oasis for stability for citizens from the central and southern governorates, but these attacks increased their fears, and thus many people no longer prefer to buy." In Erbil.
The city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, has been subjected to missile attacks on an almost weekly basis for more than a month, as the Harir Air Base near the city's airport is targeted, and the Harir Air Base is a center for the presence of American and foreign forces.
The "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claims responsibility for the attacks on the Harir base in Erbil, sometimes with missiles and with drones at other times.
In addition to diplomatic staff in Iraq, the United States has about 2,500 soldiers in the country on a mission that it says is aimed at providing advice and assistance to Iraqi forces.
Last Sunday, the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government reported that the headquarters of the Peshmerga forces in Erbil Governorate was attacked by two explosive drones carried out by an “outlaw” force, holding the federal government responsible for this attack, which it described as “terrorist.”
