The Karbala Agriculture Directorate revealed its success in producing yellow corn from its farms that it established in the desert.
The director of agriculture in the governorate, Engineer Muhammad Al-Tayyar, told Al-Sabah, followed by Mawazine News, that his directorate succeeded in converting barren lands in the Karbala desert into farms for yellow corn, as it conducted field experiments during which it adopted new production methods, represented by exploiting the remaining empty spaces between the wheat fields. Which is left unplanted as a result of the space specified for the rotation of the pivot sprinklers, which are watered in close circles, so I decided to exploit it by planting vegetables, such as tomato, cucumber, and eggplant crops that are watered by drip, in addition to planting yellow corn for the first time.
He pointed out that the directorate started by cultivating a thousand dunums and has now reached 5 thousand dunums, confirming the success of the experiment, as marketing operations are currently underway to the Mesopotamian Company’s corn factory, noting that agricultural data indicate that each dunum will produce one ton of yellow corn. That is, the yield this season will reach five thousand tons of yellow corn.
