Mawazine News - Baghdad,
a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Moin Al-Kadhimi, described, on Tuesday, the financial situation in Iraq as confusing in light of the state’s continuation of the government appointment policy, noting that employee salaries cost Iraq 72 trillion dinars annually.
Al-Kadhimi said in a televised interview followed by Mawazine News, “Iraq really needs to activate the private sector urgently in order to absorb the momentum on the government sector in hiring.”
He added, "The Ministry of Education consists of one million male and female teachers, while the number of employees of the Ministries of Defense and Interior exceeded one million. These are exaggerated numbers that cost the state 6 trillion dinars monthly, or 72 trillion dinars annually."
He pointed out that "high oil prices due to the crises in the region, the wars in Ukraine, and the conflict in the Red Sea are the most important reasons for the continued rise in global oil prices and for the government to be able to disburse salaries regularly, which means that we are living through world crises."
