The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, Dilshad Shihab, confirmed on Friday that the participation of the President of the Kurdistan Region in the Munich Security Conference in Germany carries several messages, including that he will be helpful in international efforts to protect security, and make all efforts to protect it and protect Iraq from all risks. .
Shehab said in an exclusive interview: “The Kurdistan Region is a key player in the equations of the Middle East and in Iraq in particular. It is important for the role and entity of the region, and this is not the first time that the Kurdistan Region has participated in this conference, as it has been participating for several years effectively and positively.”
He pointed out that “the meetings are continuing today and tomorrow as well.” The Kurdistan Region’s message is that at the global level it will be helpful to all international efforts to protect security and stability in the region, and its message to neighboring countries is that it has not and will not become a source of problems and threats to any of these countries.”
He added, "The region's message to inside Iraq is that we believe that Iraq is suffering from a set of major problems, and two months ago at the environmental conference held in the Emirates, Iraq was among the five worst countries facing danger. There is a danger of unemployment, life, and drought. There are a set of great challenges facing Iraq, and it cannot bear to become... Part of the ongoing war in the region.”
Shihab explained, “The Kurdistan Region is not isolated from these risks, and although there is a difference in the region’s situation, the situation of Iraq will have a direct impact on the situation of Kurdistan, so the region’s message is that all these circumstances must be taken into account, and we will make every effort to protect the region and Iraq from these possibilities.”
Regarding the threats to the Kurdistan Region, whether from outside the region, such as the bombing that occurred a while ago on Erbil, or the internal threats carried out by outlaw groups by attacking the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, this is a group of issues related to each other, such as the negotiations currently taking place between the federal authorities. “With the presence of the region on the impact of the role of the international coalition.”
He stated, “We believe that the necessity that made the coalition forces come to Iraq, which is to fight terrorism, these dangers still exist in Iraq and the region, so this issue must be evaluated realistically and not be viewed only from the perspective of the Gaza war, but rather it must be viewed from the perspective of “Iraq’s interest.”
The spokesman pointed out that “yesterday, one of the meetings brought together the President of the Kurdistan Region and the Prime Minister of the Federal Government, and it was a very good meeting in which the steps to reach an agreement on the issue of the budget, oil, and all common issues were discussed. The discussions were very positive and the views of the Iraqi Prime Minister and the President of the Region were discussed.” Kurdistan, and I can say that it is similar to solving these problems, and we hope for better steps in the future.”
Regarding the issue of the elections, he continued by saying: “We look with concern at the steps taken by the Federal Court and these postponements will have negative effects on the work of the Commission. We clearly informed the Commission and the concerned authorities that the region is ready and we have shown all preparations politically and logistically and to provide any assistance to make this process a success.” “What hinders this process is the delay in the decision by the Federal Court.”
Yesterday afternoon, Thursday afternoon, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, left Erbil for Germany to participate in the Munich Security Conference.
A statement issued by the Presidency of the Region stated that during the period of the conference, President Nechirvan Barzani will have meetings and meetings with leaders and senior officials of countries, where he will exchange with them opinions and viewpoints on the security conditions and challenges facing the security and stability of Iraq, the region, and the world. His Excellency will also present the Kurdistan Region’s vision for these issues. .
