    Al-Sumaria News - Exclusive

Until recently, half of the Iraqi Airways planes were “perched” and only the other half were flying, and among the perched planes, some of them arrived during recent periods not exceeding a year, while Al-Sumaria News conducts a complete inventory of Iraqi Airways planes.

The Ministry of Transport said in a statement that the Iraqi Airways Company has so far returned 7 aircraft to service, and we seek to operate at least 10 aircraft before the end of this year. He pointed out that “

Iraqi Airways has contracted with reputable international companies to repair 20 engines and return them to Iraq.” To be installed on parked aircraft by the staff of the General Airlines Company.

Starting from here, Al-Sumaria News is conducting a digital review of the number of aircraft owned by Iraq, the number of parked ones, the types of parked aircraft, and the percentage of those that were recovered and returned to work.

Iraq owns 43 aircraft, of which only 21 aircraft were operational, compared to 22 aircraft “perched” on the airport grounds, unable to fly due to malfunctions and the stopping of their engines.

The parked planes are divided into 6 Airbus planes, 3 Bombardier planes, and 12 Boeing planes. Among these planes that arrived in Iraq in different years from 2008 until now, 4 of the parked planes had only arrived recently, one arrived in January 2023, and one in December 2022, another in September 2022, and one in November 2021.

While the Ministry of Transport says that the number of planes that were restarted reached 7 planes, this means that there are approximately 14 planes still grounded, as about 32% of the grounded planes have been recovered.

From a broader perspective, currently 35% of Iraqi Airways planes are perched, compared to 51% of perched aircraft.
