Measures to improve the environmental situation in Babylon

The local government in Babylon expressed the need to redouble efforts to improve the environmental situation there, stressing the initiation of many measures that would improve the governorate’s environment. The First Deputy Governor, Alaa Al-Araji, told Al-Sabah that the local government is continuing its meetings with the Environmental Protection and Improvement Council to identify the most important problems facing its work, especially since the governorate needs exceptional efforts to reach the level of ambition and to ensure the safety of the citizen in this regard, pointing out that It will soon begin planting empty spaces and streets, implementing a green belt for the governorate, and treating sanitary landfill sites, in addition to activating the stray dog control committee and putting an end to the issue of random carrots, noting that paying attention to these axes means improving the environmental reality in Babylon. Al-Araji stressed the necessity of developing and activating the work of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Council in the governorate with all its decisions and outputs on the ground and abandoning paper reports that do not find implementation on the ground, calling for joint cooperation between the relevant departments to submit proposals that can be implemented. For his part, the Director of the Babylon Environment, Makki Al-Shammari, pointed out that the mobile teams are continuing to hold accountable transgressors who slaughter randomly in places other than those allocated to them, and the necessary legal measures are being taken against them, especially after the opening of the Al-Hilla Model Massacre, which provided the latest international equipment for slaughtering livestock in a civilized manner.
