    Today, Tuesday (May 14, 2024), the Security Media Cell announced a first-of-its-kind meeting for ports, customs and transportation consultants with  truck drivers to consider their demands.
    The cell said in a statement, received by “Baghdad Today”, that “based on the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sami Abdel Hussein Radi, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Ports, Customs and Transport Affairs, chaired today a meeting at the Border Ports Authority, to consider the demands of truck drivers.” This is the first time that their appeals have been responded to, in the presence of representatives of the Joint Operations Command, the Security Media Cell, heads of security services, directors of customs and controls in the Ministry of Interior, as well as representatives of truck drivers. During this meeting, the mechanism for implementing their requests and problems that were raised earlier was discussed. Which was responded to and recommendations were issued, approved by the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to resolve the obstacles and dilemmas, which would facilitate the entry of trucks loaded with goods, especially the issue of passing through the checkpoints and not obstructing the movement of these trucks.”
    She added, "The recommendations included that the inspection of trucks be in the main controls on the administrative borders of the governorates only and not in the internal controls. Emphasis was placed on determining the passage route for vehicles loaded with goods of all kinds coming from the governorates of Erbil, Dohuk, and Dakhla through the border crossings recognized by the government." Federal (Hajj Omran - Ibrahim Al-Khalil) through the customs and security checkpoint (dam control) exclusively and assigning the Nineveh Governorate Police Command, in coordination with the governorate administration, to secure the requirements for customs and security control work. The path of passage of vehicles loaded with goods of all types coming from Sulaymaniyah and Dakhla governorates has also been determined. Through the official border crossings recognized by the federal government (Pervez Khan - Bashmakh) exclusively through the customs and security inspection and audit point (Bawa Mahmoud control), and assigning the Diyala Governorate Police Command to coordinate with the governorate administration to elect an alternative location for the current control in a way that secures work requirements. Customs and security.
    She continued: "These recommendations come to end the suffering of truck drivers of standing for hours, and sometimes up to days, and being searched at multiple checkpoints. These recommendations will be sufficient to end their suffering once and for all." 
    She confirmed that it was agreed to implement the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which also include establishing a special line for the passage of oil derivatives tanks and not disrupting their passage through the checkpoints, as of today, May 14, 2024,  while the above-mentioned paths will be implemented as of next Saturday, corresponding to the 18th. This May.” 
    According to the statement, representatives of the truck drivers thanked “the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Security Forces for responding to their demands and solving their problems.” 
    The Security Media Cell explained, "These steps come to provide support and assistance to all truck drivers who have an important and essential role in building the country's economy."
