Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Water Resources announced the release of quantities of available storage in the Dukan Dam to enhance the imports of the Tigris River.
The ministry said in a statement, today, Sunday, that "the lack of water revenues led to a sharp decline in water storage in the country, coinciding with the lack of rain and the increase in the demand for water to secure irrigation of agricultural crops for the current winter season, which exceeded the planned plan, due to the farmers' lack of commitment to the planned agricultural areas." According to the agricultural plan that approved the surface water and the lack of commitment to the application of the morashana system, all of this led to some areas in the southern governorates being affected by the lack of water revenues.
During the statement, the ministry confirmed that it had taken measures to release quantities of available storage in the Dokan Dam to enhance the imports of the Tigris River, and signs of the increase have recently reached the Kut Dam, "noting that the quantities of water secured in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers cover the need and all agricultural requirements, drinking water and all other requirements."
She added, "Based on the directives of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Water Resources, and as a result of the continuation of these abuses, all the formations and staff of the Ministry of Water Resources took several measures, in coordination with the operations leaders, to remove these abuses, whether on water quotas or fish lakes exceeded, or encroachment on agricultural areas determined according to the plan." agricultural sector for the current winter season, where the advanced staff in the ministry has been mobilized in the work sectors deployed in the affected governorates and through the operating room formed to face water scarcity.
During the statement, the ministry called on local governments to support their cadres in removing the excesses and to demand from farmers and farmers to adhere to the water quotas established for each governorate and not to exceed the quotas of other governorates to ensure that water reaches the governorates. It indicated that the amounts of snow that fell in the Tigris Basin, the Upper Zab and the Lower Zab are good and will secure good
quantities of water in the event of its thawing and the reinforcement of water storage in dams next spring.
