Community Police revealed, on Thursday, terrifying statistics on cases of domestic violence and extortion over the course of two months.
The police stated in a statement received by Mawazine News that they had dealt with 181 cases of electronic extortion and 190 cases of domestic violence in Baghdad and the governorates during the past months of May and June, while they were able to return 22 fugitives to their families during the same period.
The statement added, "This came in conjunction with the efforts and awareness and immunization campaigns implemented by the community police to protect members of society from various social phenomena and problems."
It pointed out that "the treatment and arrest operations are based on reports and appeals received by the community police via its free hotline 497, or through its offices spread throughout the country."
In addition, according to the statement, the community police took the necessary measures against blackmailers and abusers, while providing psychological and moral support and care to victims of violence and escape, and urging their families to solve their problems in amicable and peaceful ways, away from violence and coercion.
