Foreign Minister: Iraqi mediation to resolve the Syrian crisis

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that the US Treasury Department positively evaluated the efforts of the Central Bank, indicating that a military delegation will visit Washington to hold security talks, while revealing that a meeting will be held in Baghdad including Syrian and Turkish officials to discuss the Syrian crisis.
Hussein said in a press conference held in the US capital, Washington: “Our visit to Washington was to attend the NATO summit at the invitation of the US side, and on the sidelines of the summit we held intensive meetings with leaders of several countries, and we held a meeting with the US Treasury Department to discuss issues related to monetary policy and banking signs.”
He added that “the US Treasury Department positively evaluated the efforts of the Central Bank,” indicating that “a military delegation will visit Washington to hold talks on the security agreement concluded between Iraq and the United States.”
He continued: “We discussed the future of the international mission in NATO meetings in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.”
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister announced that a meeting will soon be held in Baghdad including Syrian and Turkish officials to discuss the Syrian crisis.
Hussein said in a television statement from Washington: "There is an initiative from Iraq to mediate between Ankara and Damascus, and communication is ongoing in this regard," noting that "he met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Washington to arrange a meeting in Baghdad with the Syrian side."
He explained that "there is also ongoing communication from Iraq with the Syrian side, and a date will be set for holding this meeting in Baghdad," indicating that "Iraq does not take the green light from others, but we discuss with friends and allies the steps we are taking, especially those related to the security and stability of the region."
In addition, the representative of the Fatah Alliance parliamentary bloc, Mohammed Al-Baldawi, considered the Iraqi call to hold a joint meeting in Baghdad that brings together the Turkish and Syrian presidents as contributing to the stability of the region and serving the interests of Iraq. Al
-Baldawi said in a press statement that "the meeting has a direct impact on Iraq, especially from a security perspective, as the security forces are still unable to control the borders with Turkey and Syria alone, and terrorists are still flowing in from both countries."
