The Ministry of Interior announced its success in reducing the number of fires in July by 70% compared to last year, indicating that this is due to citizens’ awareness and deterrent legal measures against violators.
The ministry’s spokesman, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, said in a statement that “the Civil Defense Directorate succeeded in reducing the percentage of fire accidents recorded in all Iraqi governorates by 70% in July 2024, as it reached only (938), while the accidents recorded for the year 2023 from the same month reached (2907).”
He added that “July is the month with the highest number of recorded fires due to the high temperatures and the increased chances of their causes,” indicating that “the decrease in the percentage of recorded accidents during 2024 is due primarily to the awareness of the citizen, in addition to the deterrent legal measures against violators of safety procedures and civil defense requirements, including removing violations, which are among the most important reasons for the increase in fire rates in previous years.”
