    Information/Baghdad...
Masoud Barzani seeks to win the position of Kirkuk governor despite having only two seats in the provincial council. He has moved towards Khamis al-Khanjar, the Turkmen and some Arab parties to ensure obtaining the position, as part of his war and conflict with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which has 6 seats in the provincial council and is the most numerous in terms of the number of seats. However, the final word may be given by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani by going towards choosing the new governor after the parties failed to resolve the issue and reached a dead end.
It is likely that the governor's position will be decided within hours or just a few days, especially since the Prime Minister has given a specific deadline to the political parties in Kirkuk to decide on the position, but they failed in this task, which opens the door for Al-Sudani to put those parties before a fait accompli in order to form the local government and ensure the proper management of the governorate after 8 months have passed since the elections for the provincial councils.
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Muhannad Al-Aqrawi, explained that the Kurdistan Democratic Party does not want any change of government to take place in Kirkuk as it does in the region.
Al-Aqrawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party is trying to keep the situation in Kirkuk as it is for its current management of the province from behind the scenes," noting that "what happened in Nineveh and the dismissal of the general managers affiliated with the Democratic Party warned the party not to resolve the situation in Kirkuk."
He added, "Barzani's visit to Baghdad in the past few days was not to resolve the issues related to the settlement of salaries and the Kirkuk crisis, but rather to perpetuate them," noting that "maintaining crises strengthens the Democrats, as they are accustomed to creating them."
For his part, the member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Surji, accused, today, Friday, the head of the Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, of trying to seize the position of Kirkuk governor, and marginalizing the Patriotic Union, through his meeting with the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis Al-Khanjar, the Turkmen, and some Arab parties.
Al-Surji told Al-Maalouma Agency, "The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is the party that won the most seats in Kirkuk, noting that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will decide the governorate's file, after the other parties failed to choose the appropriate person for the position of governor."
He added, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party has only two seats in the Kirkuk Provincial Council and is demanding the position of governor, as the position is supposed to be held by the party that has the largest number of seats."
He added, "There are regional directives pushing the Democratic Party to try to remove the Patriotic Union from the equation," noting that "Masoud Barzani met five days ago with Khamis al-Khanjar and members of the Turkmen and Arabs in the Salah al-Din resort to discuss the formation of the local government in Kirkuk." End 25
He explained that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has set a deadline for the political parties to decide on the local government in Kirkuk, as the lack of agreement between the political blocs will push al-Sudani to choose someone to manage the province, and it is likely that al-Sudani's plan will go ahead, especially since the law allows him to do so."
In addition, sources close to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced today, Friday, that there is a new scenario that will resolve the Kirkuk Governorate crisis file if its political components fail to form its local government.
The sources told Al-Maalouma that "Al-Sudani set a deadline for the political parties in Kirkuk to decide on the local government, noting that "Al-Sudani informed the components of Kirkuk that he will choose a person from his side to manage the province if the political parties fail to form the government."
The sources expected that "this scenario will be implemented, due to the commitment of Kirkuk blocs and machines to their high ceilings." End 25N
