    Baghdad Today-Baghdad
An informed source revealed, today, Saturday (July 27, 2024), the details of the meeting of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani with the Arab and Turkmen parties in Kirkuk, while indicating that August 11 was set as the final date before al-Sudani is assigned to manage Kirkuk.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "Al-Sudani confirmed to the attendees the impossibility of forming a local government in Kirkuk under Turkey's plan in any way."
He added, "Al-Sudani stressed that the recent elections in Kirkuk are a political success that cannot be squandered."
He pointed out that "Al-Sudani set August 11 as the last date for naming the governor of Kirkuk and for the political parties to agree among themselves," indicating that "Al-Sudani indicated that in the event of a lack of agreement, he will personally intervene and appoint someone to manage Kirkuk."
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received members of the Kirkuk Provincial Council from the Arab component on Thursday, while stressing the need to proceed with completing the formation of the local government in Kirkuk Province and not marginalizing any component in decision-making.
This came after "retaliatory" moves by the Kurdistan Democratic Party to side with the Turkmen and Arabs against the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and "isolate" it from forming the local government in Kirkuk.
The Turkish media described it as "the return of power to the Turkmen for the first time in 100 years," after talk of forming a local government through rotating positions.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party's move may be "in line" with Turkey's desire, which is in a permanent dispute with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, while the Kurdistan Democratic Party is trying to take revenge on its rival, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, in response to what it did in Nineveh by aligning with the Coordination Framework and changing the local administrations in Nineveh comprehensively.
