China recorded last February first monthly trade deficit in three years with the increase in imports, the fastest pace since the beginning of 2012 supported by strong demand for commodities such as iron ore, crude oil and coal.
Customs data showed Wednesday, March 8 / March that China's exports in February fell unexpectedly by 1.3% on an annual basis, but imports increased by 38.1%, which exceeds the expectations of economists.
The General Administration of Customs said this caused a trade deficit of 9.15 billion dollars in the month of February. But China observers cautioned that the January and February data could be adversely affected by the Lunar New Year holiday with a long slowdown in the work before the holiday a few weeks later and the resort of many companies to reduce their operations or closure.
China's exports increased for the months of January and February together by 4%, which exceeds the expectations of economists, while imports rose 26.4%, which suggests a strong improvement in demand at home and abroad, despite the negative effects of the holiday.
