    Putin: Bush's father was right about not toppling Saddam

    Editorial date:: 2017/6/17

    Russian President Vladimir Putin said former US President George HW Bush was right when he refused to topple Saddam Hussein during the 1991 Gulf War.
    "The United States did not go any further, and the government did not fall in Iraq," Putin said in an interview with American director Oliver Stone, an interview with Putin on Showtime. There was a time on this subject, and some told him [Bush's father] that he had to go ahead and overthrow Saddam Hussein, but President Bush was right when he did what he did and be cautious .. is a response to Saddam's aggression on Kuwait and stopped in Right moment ".
    At the same time, Putin stressed that "the decision taken by President Bush to send US troops to Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein was wrong."
    The United States, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 678, carried out a military operation against the Saddam regime in 1991 in response to the invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990.
    The hostilities between US and Iraqi forces continued for 41 days and were halted on 28 February 1991 by the American side after the liberation of Kuwait from the former regime.
