The Japanese Embassy in Baghdad has signed a memorandum with Iraq to provide a financial loan .
"On the sixth day of September, the signing of the mutual memoranda was held in Baghdad to provide Japanese official development aid loan (Japanese loan). The loan aims at improving the harsh financial conditions and reforming the country's finances by helping The Iraqi government in its current reforms in the areas of administration and finance . "
The decline in world oil prices in recent years has resulted in a sharp decline in Iraqi government revenues. At the same time, Iraq has had to increase spending on defense and relief for displaced people due to terrorist lobbying, causing increased government spending .
According to IMF estimates, Iraq's budget deficit in 2016 was 14.1 percent. While the public debt in the same year reached 66.9% compared to GDP .
In view of these circumstances, Japan and the G7 countries in the Group Leaders Declaration of the Summit held in Isi-Chima in May 2016 expressed their continued support for Iraq's efforts to address the financial challenges and support the economy through reform .
"This loan is part of Japan's commitment to provide financial assistance in accordance with the announcement, amounting to US $ 500 million," the embassy statement said .
The loan was preceded by the "Development and Financial Reform Policy (Phase I)" loan, which reached $ 233 million (25 billion yen) in June 2016 .
"This loan is expected to contribute to the reform program by improving government spending, energy efficiency and transparency of public companies . "
This Japanese assistance is jointly funded with the World Bank . Finished
