A number of US senators, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, called for working with the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve the current tension, warning against the use of American weapons and popular mobilization in the conflict with Erbil.
This is in a letter sent by a number of members of Congress, to Abadi, which said, "The battles with the Peshmerga is not in the interest of anyone We call on your government to work with the Kurdistan Regional Government to eliminate completely the fears of the outbreak of this war."
The members also called for the start of a comprehensive and urgent dialogue between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil to remove tensions.
According to the letter, members of Congress expressed "fear of the presence of popular mobilization forces in areas of conflict between Baghdad and Erbil, and called for their removal."
The message stressed that "the members of the Council continue to support a strong government and autonomy for the Kurdistan Region, and to protect the people of Kurdistan in all its components. We also call for the freezing of the results of the referendum and the start of dialogue with Erbil because we have become deeply displeased by the use of US weapons against Kurds and other minorities."
