    The White House said in a statement that El Salvador's severing of its diplomatic relationship with Taiwan and its transformation into China is a "serious concern" for the United States after the island lost its second ally in favor of Beijing earlier this week.
    El Salvador's decision to cut off diplomatic ties with Taipei would have repercussions for decades, the statement said Thursday. He also said the United States would continue to oppose China's destabilization of relations with Taiwan and its political interference in the western hemisphere, according to Reuters.

    Taiwan is losing another ally in favor of China[/size]

    "Governments around the world are waking up to the fact that China's economic temptations facilitate economic hegemony and dependence rather than partnership," the statement said.
    Earlier this week, Taiwan vowed to address China's "increasingly out-of-control" behavior after El Salvador became the third country to change allegiance from Taiwan to China.
