US oil producers in the Gulf of Mexico cut production by 40 percent and natural gas production by 29.1 percent on Thursday due to hurricane Michael, even as some operators began returning crews to sea platforms, the US Environmental Protection and Safety Bureau said.
The bureau quoted reports from 30 companies that the reductions represent 680107 barrels of oil daily and 744 million cubic feet per day of natural gas production.
