The US Senate plans to discuss a bill calling for recognition of Israel's "sovereignty" over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, according to a Hebrew newspaper.
The Jerusalem Post reported that "two members of the Republican Party, submitted Tuesday to the Senate, a non-binding bill encourages the recognition of the United States of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, as a punishment for the President of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad."
"The bill stipulates that this step will ensure that the Assad regime faces diplomatic and geopolitical consequences against the background of the killing of civilians, the ethnic cleansing of the Sunnis and the use of weapons of mass destruction," she said.
The project was presented by two members of the Senate, Ted Cruz and Tom Coton, at the request of pro-Israel lobbies in the United States, according to the same newspaper.
