The deterioration of the political situation and security implications in the disputed areas between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil in Iraq, the relations of the two parties at stake, and warns of the outbreak of a new political crisis between them, may affect the attempts of the government of Adel Abdul Mahdi to fill the situation in the country.
The political differences in these areas are exacerbated to spread their crises on the Iraqi arena, amid appeals for urgent solutions and reduce their crisis, which may affect the interest of the country. The "conflict" areas are in disarray. Between tense differences in Sinjar and security deterioration in the city of Khanaqin (Diyala province), accompanied by political crises and security implications in Kirkuk, the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil seems to be worrying, may explode at any moment.
In the context, said a senior political official, said that "the Iraqi government represented by its president, Adel Abdul Mahdi, is not reassuring of the situation in the disputed areas, because of the control of some political parties and the struggle to extend influence," explaining that "daily reports to the Prime Minister on The deterioration of the situation in those areas, including Sinjar, Kirkuk, Khanaqin and others. "
The official pointed out that "the government is trying to find a settlement to this, by controlling those areas, and finding understandings that absorb political differences on them," asserting that "the leaders of the cord, including the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, have recently made several contacts with Abdul Mahdi And discussed with him this file. "
The official added that "a high-level Kurdish delegation will arrive in Baghdad soon, to discuss the repercussions of the crises of the disputed areas, as well as to discuss other political topics of common interest between the parties, including the issue of forming a government," stressing that "the government is working on the formation of joint committees between Baghdad And Erbil to discuss outstanding issues, including the file of disputed areas, and the possibility of solutions. According to the "New Arab"
Iraqi political parties warn of the danger of deterioration of the situation in these areas, calling for urgent national dialogue. Among them was the head of the National Coalition, Iyad Allawi, who said in a press statement recently that he "discussed with officials Cord the possibility of developing relations between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil," stressing that "there is weakness in coordination and non-follow-up of political decisions and agreements, The dispute between the two governments, especially with regard to the enactment of laws and legislation important to the parties, which was stipulated by the Iraqi constitution.
Allawi said in his statement that "the seriousness of the aggravation of the situation in the disputed areas, which calls for the need to launch an urgent national dialogue, find solutions to the situation in them," stressing "the importance of effective coordination between Baghdad and Erbil, on all topics, and coordinate positions on important issues" .
Kurdish officials confirm that the "popular rally" is working in cooperation with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to create crises in those areas. In this context, said the mayor of the town of Sinjar, (disputed) and the province of Nineveh, the Kurdish leader, Mahma Khalil, "The popular crowd worked in cooperation with the Kurdistan Workers Party, the appointment of a new mayor in the town to implement special agendas," explaining that "this The appointment was not based on legal and legitimate grounds. "
Khalil stressed that "the legitimate Qaimqam is only me, and continuing to practice my work," pointing out that "he carries out his administrative work outside the town, in the camps for the displaced in the Kurdistan Region."
He said that "the crowd and the PKK do not allow the members of the board of directors of Sinjar to work only if they are loyal to them," stressing that "
Kirkuk, a disputed city, is in a precarious security situation, especially after a senior Barzani leader was killed last week. "Today, Kirkuk is an occupied city and a large concentration camp," said Kamal Karkuki, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leadership in the province. "The armed factions must leave immediately." "The solution in Kirkuk lies in handing over the security and administrative file to the people of the province and its components, and that a non-partisan governor should be chosen," he said.
The areas of "conflict" or "disputed areas", or as Kurds call Kurdish areas outside the administration of the region, are vital points in the dispute between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil, which are mixed in terms of population structure, including Arabs, Kurds, Turkmans and other minorities. Since 2003, successive governments have not been able to reach a consensus solution with the Kurds, which they hold for the Kurdistan Region.
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi forces and the "popular crowd" had imposed control over the disputed areas, following the referendum of Kurdistan, which was the end of September 2017, while the Peshmerga forces withdrew from them.
