Electricity warns of a complete shutdown of the national grid due to the besieging of a thermal plant

Shafaq News / The Ministry of Electricity attributed the reasons for the low volume of energy supplies in Baghdad and a number of the central governorates, to technical reasons that occurred in a number of generating stations and periodic maintenance for a large number of units, while warning of the consequences of stopping the Zubaidiyah thermal station, which supplies the system with 2540 MW due to lack of delivery Fuel has been blocked by protesters for two days.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said in a statement carried by the semi-official newspaper “Al-Sabah” in its issue issued today, Wednesday, that the decrease in the supply of citizens with electrical current in the capital and a number of the central governorates, such as Diyala and Babel, is due to technical problems in the gas pipeline connecting to the generating stations from the Iranian side. The Ministry is working on rehabilitating it to ensure that natural gas is returned to these stations, which used to supply the system with 3,400 megawatts.
He added: The other thing that helped to low the supply is to remove a large number of obstetric units to carry out maintenance work on them before next summer season, noting that the energy supply in the northern and southern regions continues around the clock in most of its areas, and that the low supply includes only the central region.
Al-Abadi warned against the consequences of continuing the demonstration and blockading the Zubaydia power station in Wasit Governorate for several days, stopping technical and logistical supplies from it and unable to deliver fuel to it, which threatens to stop it completely and this deprives the country of available energy estimated at 2540 megawatts, in addition to threatening the national network to completely extinguish In case the station stops operating.
The Ministry of Electricity promised a service ministry keen to continue securing the electrical current for citizens, and therefore has nothing to do with political aspects, appealing to citizens to preserve the joints of the network, refuting the allegations of some that the ministry intends to turn off the power from the areas where demonstrations occur, especially Baghdad, stressing its keenness to continue Providing all regions, including those that are experiencing demonstrations, referring to some interruptions in those areas, to targeting their distribution networks.
Wasit governorate reported that Al-Zubaidiya thermal station employees were attacked after being prevented from completing their work by protesters, according to a local government statement there.
The demonstrators had closed the Zubaidiya thermal station in Wasit province, on Monday, and prevented the entry and exit of staff.
