Sadr is retreating and his adviser fails to persuade the sit-in prime minister-designate

It appears that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, failed to succeed in the "February deal", which included delivering the candidate (Mohammed Allawi) to the prime minister, in exchange for controlling the protests.
In an attempt to compensate the losses, Sadr entered a new stage, which is the stage of "negotiating" with the protesters, and negotiating a trump card that Sadr had previously tried in the 2016 sit-ins in Baghdad.
Last weekend, 11 demonstrators were killed and 122 others injured in an attack by Sadr supporters known as the "Blue Hats", against protesters in Sadrin Square, central Najaf.
Another 11 protesters were injured, on Thursday, after an attack by Sadr's supporters, in the Karbala sit-in square.
The Sadrist movement denies recording any deaths in the Najaf clashes, considering the videos, which were published about those events, as "Hollywood films".
Al-Sadr began his "coup" against the protests, in early February, (Allawi’s assignment night), while his arms (Peace Brigades, Blue Hats) began attempts to break up the sit-ins.
And those events caused a wave of public anger against Sadr, as the United Nations and several countries condemned the use of violence against protesters.
On Friday, religious authority Ali al-Sistani condemned the violence that claimed the lives of protesters in Najaf, and said that any new Iraqi government should gain the trust and support of the people.
Sistani called on the security forces to protect peaceful protesters from further attacks, and "to take responsibility for exposing the aggressors and the intruders, and preserving the interests of the citizens from the attacks of the saboteurs."
Sistani criticized in his Friday sermon, "the interference of non-governmental organizations in the security file and the imposition of its vision on citizens," which activists on social media platforms considered to be directed to the Sadrist movement.
In the face of this, Sadr found himself in great embarrassment and decided, according to activists, to use a new method, in controlling the protests, through negotiations.
So far, the leader of the Sadrist movement has not indicated publicly that he wants to break up the sit-ins, despite the violence his supporters use against the demonstrators.
According to activists, Al-Sadr wants to keep the protests under his control and as a "pressure card" against his opponents in negotiating the formation of the new government.
According to protesters in Tahrir Square, central Baghdad, Sadr's military adviser Abu Doaa al-Issawi met with protesters in the square and made several pledges, including withdrawing "blue hats", before Sadr announced this explicitly.
The pledges of Sadr and his advisor
Muqtada al-Sadr decided yesterday to withdraw the "blue hats" and hand over the protection of the demonstration squares to the security forces.
He also called in a tweet on Twitter, to give "importance to the gathering of university students" in the demonstration squares, and to keep away "infiltrators", while noting that attendance at universities and schools is optional.
Prior to that, during his meeting with protesters, Al-Sadr’s military advisor, known as “Abu Dua'a Al-Issawi,” vowed to “apologize” from the students who were attacked by the blue hats, during a meeting to be attended by the students or their representatives.
In turn, Ali Sami, one of the activists in Baghdad, confirmed to Al-Mada that the meeting that took place yesterday "lasted for 5 hours, and representatives of the protesters of Tahrir Square did not attend." Not as representatives of tents. ”
Al-Issawi pledged, according to activists, to allow the demonstrators to enter the Turkish restaurant, turn it into a "cultural edifice", and open it to visitors in coordination with artistic elites.
Al-Issawi, who was recently acquitted by al-Sadr, informed of the accusations that he caused corruption, the meeting, rejecting the presence of foreign forces, including Iran.
Pages in support of the Sadrist movement circulated that the delegate of al-Sadr informed the demonstrators that the Alliance of Walkers had informed Barham Salih and the political forces that he would not vote to give confidence to the government of Muhammad Allawi.
But Muntazir al-Zaidi, a former candidate for other pilgrims and one attending the last meeting, said that “some of the coordinators presented a plan for accepting Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, but she was met with rejection from a number of coordination groups.”
Al-Zaidi added, in his account on Facebook, that "the meeting did not lead to any agreement between the representative of al-Sadr and the coordination."
Before Sadr resorted to negotiations, social media users in Iraq had launched a massive virtual campaign against Sadr, demanding that his Twitter account be closed.
This prompted his minister, known as “Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi,” to request support from Sadr's supporters, to prevent the site from closing.
And last Friday, Al-Iraqi called on the security forces and the interior and defense ministers to deal firmly with what he described as "cultivators of strife", "idle workers" and "inciters of discrimination".
The Ministry of Defense replied to al-Iraqi that its forces "demonstrated the utmost restraint towards those outside the peaceful demonstrations since their inception."
And the ministry said in a statement yesterday, "It is standing at the same distance from everyone."
On the other hand, the leader of the National Coalition, Iyad Allawi, warned on Friday against the deteriorating conditions in the country, noting that the political and security situation is descending towards a "civil war."
Activists consider that "wrapping the chest" behind the protesters' back, and trying to open the door to negotiation, threatens to repeat the "scenario" of the previous demonstrations, which the leader of the Sadrist movement intervenes, to dismantle.
The activist, Ali Sami, said, "The Sadrist movement used negotiations in the 2011, 2015 and 2016 demonstrations, and its results were to end the protests."
Sami confirmed that, in his famous sit-in in 2016, in front of Al-Khadra, Al-Sadr "negotiated with the demonstrators and saved the government and parliament.
