The Commission sets a date for approving the names of the candidates: a new list of those excluded will be issued soon

Baghdad / Muhammed Sabah
The Electoral Commission is scheduled to approve the names of the candidates for the early parliamentary elections. The announcement of the names will be, according to expectations, at the end of this month, after the Accountability and Justice Commission has finished checking the data of one thousand candidates.
Based on this, the High Elections Commission will issue, within the next few hours, a new list of the names of those excluded from the electoral race, distributed between a forgery of his educational certificates, and among those who were excluded by the Integrity Commission, while the new list will include the deletion of two candidates due to their death.
Jumana Ghalay, a spokeswoman for the Electoral Commission, said in a statement to (Al Mada) that the number of those excluded from running in the upcoming parliamentary elections is still moving and unstable despite the previous lists that were issued, indicating that the Commission will announce the preparation of the names of the excluded (all) after approving the lists of candidates.
On the thirtieth of last May, the Electoral Commission announced the issuance of a preliminary list of twenty candidates who were excluded from participating in the upcoming elections after their names were checked by the Criminal Registration Department of the Ministry of Interior.
The Electoral Commission also issued a second list of those excluded, consisting of 135 candidates from the upcoming elections, and said that all those excluded are members of the armed forces and security services. Ghalay indicated that "there are appeals submitted by the excluded, which are being audited by the relevant authorities to decide on them," explaining that matters will become clear after the completion of the audit of all candidates' data by the ministries of defense, interior, higher education and education, and the integrity, accountability and justice bodies.
Recently, the Electoral Commission announced the exclusion of 226 candidates from running in the elections for being included in the procedures of the Accountability and Justice Law, calling on those excluded to follow the legal methods before the competent cassation body to consider appeals against the decisions of the Accountability and Justice Commission. For his part, Hussein Al-Hendawi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on electoral affairs, said in an interview with Al-Mada that before the end of this month, the Electoral Commission is likely to ratify the names of the candidates for the early parliamentary elections after completing the name check by the Integrity, Accountability and Justice Commissions.
Parliamentary Elections Law No. (9) of 2020 obligates in its article (9) to prevent the nomination of members of the armed forces and security services (defense, interior, anti-terror agency and the popular crowd) unless they submit their resignation from their military jobs and positions or have been referred to retirement. Al-Hindawi expects that the Electoral Commission will issue a new list of the deportees during the next few period after completing the data audit by the Integrity, Accountability and Justice Commissions, noting that the completion of the data audit does not require the exclusion of other candidates from the electoral race.
More than eleven government agencies (Interior Defense, Higher Education, Education, Criminal Registration, Accountability, Justice and Integrity, the Anti-Terrorism Agency and the Popular Mobilization) are scrutinizing the data of (3523) candidates, and it is likely that these agencies will finish the audit process for the candidates’ data during the current days or the beginning of next week.
He points out that "the Integrity, Accountability and Justice Commissions are still continuing their work, and the Commission is waiting for the completion of the audit of all data before announcing the approval of the names of the candidates," noting that these two bodies have great work and each needs time to complete the audit process. The government advisor indicates that "among the Commission's procedures is to complete the preparation of election centers, the number of which ranges between 60 to 65 thousand centers throughout the Iraqi provinces."
For his part, a well-informed source confirmed to (Al-Mada) that the Electoral Commission will ratify at the end of this month the names and lists of candidates once and for all, based on the information table set by the commission in order to complete its logistical work to hold the parliamentary elections on the scheduled date on the tenth of next October.
The source, who preferred not to be named, explains that "the Integrity Commission excluded five names from the electoral race because of their inclusion in its procedures, while other candidates were expelled because they forged their academic certificates," adding that the Commission also decided to delete the names of two candidates from the elections due to their recent death.
And he continues, "The new list will consist of these deportees, but the Commission remains waiting for the Accountability and Justice Commission to finish scrutinizing the health and safety of a thousand candidates after more than 2,000 candidates have been audited."
