{Economic: Al Furat News} An analysis published by the Oil Price website, which specializes in energy and economics, indicates that Iraq may turn to deals to stop “burning gas” and exporting it to become one of the exporting countries for gas and petrochemicals.
The useful summary.. In important news, you can find it in the Euphrates News channel on the telegram.. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Iraq is the second largest country that burns large quantities of gas in the world after Russia, as it seeks to provide 200 million cubic feet of gas per day that is generated from the main oil fields.
The analysis says that any move towards that will allow the country to invest this burning resource and start developing the real gas export business to Asia in the first place. It would also be allowed to use some of these resources for electric power generation, which would allow it to end its dependence on energy and gas imports from neighboring Iran, which the United States is pressing for.
Iraqi oil refineries ignite about 17 billion cubic meters of gas annually, according to last year's figures.
And Iraq recently signed an agreement with the US company Baker Hughes to exploit gas, instead of burning it, as it will start working in oil fields in Nasiriyah and other oil fields north of Basra.
The agreement provides for the initial use of gas processing in the fields of Nasiriyah to benefit from 100 million cubic feet of dry and liquefied gas.
This production will go to the local power generation sector, where the gas collected in the first stage will allow the generation of 400 megawatts of electricity to Iraq's grid, where the project will need 30 months before the actual use of the extracted gas begins.
In southern Iraq, a similar agreement was established with the French company Total, where 300 million cubic feet of cubic feet will be benefited from five oil fields in West Qurna, Tuba, Luhais, Rathai and Majnoon in the first phase, provided that these quantities will be doubled in the second phase.
