    On Sunday, the Customs Authority announced its readiness to start activating the first phase of the customs automation project.

    The Director-General of the authority, Shaker Mahmoud Al-Zubaidi, said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by "Nas" (January 9, 2022), that "the authority has completed the final preparations to start activating the first phase of the customs automation system project (electronic operation) for the customs management systems in an accurate and sound manner. It links the local trade with the international.  
      
    He added that "the new system is applied in 80 countries and contributes to curbing corruption, red tape and nepotism, and it returns nearly 50% of lost revenues to the state treasury."  
      
    He explained that "the first phase includes setting up computers, communications and accounting applications for dispatches and the database through the electronic customs system (ASYCUDA), as well as preparing halls for training customs officials at a high level of education, and providing housing to house United Nations experts."  
      
    Al-Zubaidi cautioned that "the integrated system of computerization of customs procedures is an effective tool in the hands of the customs authority, and it is managed by its human resources (exclusively), who are at a high level of efficiency and professionalism in the application of information and communication technologies, and its connection between the customs authority and its centers and state departments supporting border crossings on the one hand.
