The Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed today, Monday, that there is no consensus with the Patriotic Union on the presidential candidate, while noting that the position "does not belong to anyone."
The party's spokesman said in a statement seen by Mawazine News, "The goal of all the KDP's meetings with the rest of the Kurdish parties is to prepare a Kurdish program and find a common opinion on the future of Iraq," describing the recent PUK statement as "unfair."
The statement added, "Our goal is to form a joint delegation from all Kurdish parties," noting that "the representatives of the Patriotic Union did not have the powers to take a decision, as they withdrew without our knowledge."
He pointed out that "the position of the President of the Republic is not owned by one party or one person," usually "the fact that the representatives of the National Union did not vote on the Presidency of the Parliament is a breaking of unity."
And he stressed "the need for the candidate of the President of the Republic to have the support of the Kurdish forces." Ended 29/N33
