On Thursday, Kurdistan Democratic Party MP Majid Shankali confirmed that his party's position to vote on Barham Salih for a second term is rejected and fixed and will not change, indicating that the party does not oppose talks with the Patriotic Union.
Shankali said in a statement to "The Information", "The two Kurdish Democratic parties have many common interests," noting that "the point of contention between us is related to the issue of the position of the President of the Republic, because we believe that the position belongs to the Kurdish component and not exclusively to the National Union."
He added that "the Federal Court's decision gave us an opportunity to pass our alternative candidate for Hoshyar Zebari, whose candidacy was rejected by the Federal Court," stressing that "the veto rejected the Democratic Party regarding a second term for Barham Salih Thabet and is still in place and will not change."
The Federal Supreme Court decided, yesterday, Tuesday, the unconstitutionality of the decision of the Presidency of the House of Representatives to reopen the door for nomination for the post of President of the Republic.
The Federal Supreme Court, during its session held today, also decided to obligate the Parliament to present the issue of reopening the nomination for the presidency of the Republic to the House of Representatives. finished/25pm
