Today, Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that it has carried out a daily monitoring of rumors in the field and electronically, while determining the penalty for those who spread the rumors.
The Director of Relations and Media in the Ministry of Interior and head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Saad Maan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The anti-rumor department in our department is constantly conducting a daily field and electronic monitoring process, as well as monitoring through social networking sites and other media."
He added, "The legal articles are clear in the Iraqi Penal Code and the accountability process amounts to a fine and even imprisonment, especially in exceptional circumstances or deliberately spreading false news under the pretext of destabilizing security or hitting the economy or others."
And the Ministry of the Interior announced, earlier, that it had monitored 7,825 rumors during the past year.
