    Information / translation.
A report by the American newspaper Business Insider revealed, on Monday, that Iran has thwarted a plan for the Kurdistan region of Iraq in order to supply Turkey and Europe with gas with the help of Israel, according to Iraqi and Turkish officials.
The report, which was translated by the "Information" agency, stated that "the choice of the target that was bombed by the Revolutionary Guards and the recognition of the operation after that baffled many officials and analysts, as the missiles hit the villa of a Kurdish businessman working in the energy field, but an Iraqi security official said that there were two recent meetings between Israeli officials." And Americans in the field of energy and specialists in the same villa to discuss shipping Kurdistan gas to Turkey via a new pipeline.”
He added that, according to Iraqi and Turkish officials, who declined to be identified, "the attack was a multi-pronged message to US allies in the region - but the main motive was a plan to pump Kurdish gas to Turkey and Europe with the participation of Israel."
For his part, a senior Iranian security official said, “The attack was a multi-purpose message to many people and groups. It is up to them how to interpret it. Whatever it (Israel) plans, from the energy sector to agriculture, it will not come true.”
For their part, two Turkish officials confirmed that “talks in which US and Israeli officials participated recently took place to discuss Iraq’s supply of natural gas to Turkey and Europe, but they did not say where they took place, while the Iraqi security official and a former US official familiar with the plans said that the Kurdish businessman whose villa was hit by Iranian missiles, Baz Karim Barzanji, he was working on developing a pipeline to export gas.”
The move comes at a politically sensitive time for Iran and the region at a time when Israel, Iran's biggest regional enemy, and Turkey are working to strengthen ties and look forward to greater energy cooperation as sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine threaten a severe shortage of energy. All over Europe, Iraqi and Turkish officials did not mention specific details about the plan to pump gas from Iraqi Kurdistan to Turkey, or specify how far it has traveled, or what Israel’s role is in the project.
A Turkish official stated, “The timing of the attack in Erbil is very exciting. It appears to have been directed more at energy exports in northern Iraq and potential cooperation that might include Israel,” he said, adding, “I had some talks about natural gas exports to northern Iraq and we know that Iraq, the United States and Israel were involved in this process. And Turkey supports that as well.”
It is noteworthy that, according to a Western and Iraqi official, “Al-Barzanji is known for hosting foreign officials and businessmen in his house, including Israelis, and that the Car Barzanji Group Company is working to accelerate the gas export pipeline.” finished/ 25 z
