    Today, Wednesday, the National Security Agency revealed the details of the arrest of the largest crude oil smuggling network in Basra, explaining its methods of stealing and smuggling it and the daily quantities that it was acquiring.
    The National Security Apparatus said in a statement that "a force from the agency thwarted, by following up on this network, one of the largest crude oil smuggling operations in Basra, which was led by a merchant and included high-ranking officers and senior employees."
    He added, "The arrest of members of the network was carried out according to arrest warrants issued by the Iraqi judiciary, and the network was engaged in smuggling operations by making holes in crude oil export lines in the Zubair oil field and transporting it to a dirt road to smuggle it."
    He continued, "The daily smuggled quantities are estimated at between 5-7 tanks with a capacity of 50,000 liters, and the monthly quantities amounted to 75 million liters," noting that "the defendants' statements have been written down and investigations are still ongoing."
    Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani announced today, Wednesday, the dismantling of the largest oil smuggling network in Basra Governorate. 
    Al-Sudani said in a tweet followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We directed the tracking of oil smuggling networks and the implementation of arrest warrants against the gangs that dared and roamed to steal the right of Iraqis, and with God's help, the National Security Service detachments, in cooperation with other agencies, were able to dismantle the largest oil smuggling network in Basra.
    He added, "We will spare no effort and will work day and night to fight corruption in its various forms."
