    The Minister of Environment, Eng. Nizar Amidi, while chairing the meeting of the Supreme National Committee for Mine Affairs and in implementation of the government program, affirmed the government's determination, and through the efforts of the Ministry of Environment / Department of Mine Affairs and supporting agencies, to declare Iraq free of mines by the year 2028, in accordance with Iraq's obligations towards the Ottawa Convention to ban mines against individuals. .
    The Minister of Environment stated during the meeting that the committee discussed and voted on a number of decisions that support and serve the National Program for Mine Action and other sectoral and supportive bodies.
    It is noteworthy that the Supreme National Committee for Mine Action, which is chaired by the Prime Minister and in his place delegated the Minister of Environment to preside over this session, as it includes in its membership all the relevant executive bodies and holds periodic meetings to approve some decisions related to the national mine action program within the ministry’s steps in implementing the government program.
